I am a Child of God

Rebecca requested a recording of Izzy singing I am a Child of God. Please ignore my singing and laughing. She is hilarious. And cute. Whenever I get out the camera she gets distracted and doesn't want to "perform" anymore. Sometimes she will be singing to herself, but by the time I find my camera or my phone she won't sing alone anymore. This video will have to do.

At the very end she says "Love you . . . my daddy." (I send videos and audio to Dave all the time, so they assume all videos are for daddy.)

Escaped Convict!!!!

Corban was our little prison convict tonight. He had loads of energy, which allowed him to get much accomplished in a short time period.

He gave himself a tattoo (drew all over his jammies with a marker), carved a gun out of soap, broke out of the joint (figured out that if he used the broom handle he can reach the slider lock), and attempted some grand theft auto (took the keys to the van outside, tried to turn it on, rolled the windows down).
I (finally) figured out he was outside and ran out the door. When he saw me tear out of the house he jumped into his car seat, put on his seat belt and said, "I want to go for a ride, mommy."

(BTW, I did take him on a drive. He was alseep before we were out of the neighborhood.)

I don't get it.

So this week I spent a full day cleaning out and rearranging our laundry room and under the stairs. It is a tiny bit less embarrassing now. I think the guys at the D.I. thought my van was related to a clown car. I can hardly believe how much I was able to squeeze in there. I hate taking two trips- so I made one work.

The point of this post is how funny it is that I have looked so "bad" most of my life. I have been looking at a ton of old pictures and wondering "what was I thinking" about many of them. Why didn't anyone tell me. Looking at all these old pictures is embarrassing. Why hasn't anyone turned me in to What Not To Wear? Really. I won't feel bad. Just do it already. Seriously. I have seen pictures. I have mirrors in my house. There is much proof of my frumpy, not cute, icky looks. You are probably just being nice and don't want me to cry when Stacy and Clinton tell me my wardrobe is horrible.
I guess, in the real world, I have to learn in baby steps. One cute piece of clothing at a time. Too bad I can't just get a whole new wardrobe all at once. I do think I am getting better. I honestly am trying not to look too frumpy-mom lately. I have been trying to find classic looks that I can wear for years that look cute on my figure. It is going to take a long time to fix my fashion issues.
Authors note: This is not a pity party. I don't need everyone to tell me how awesome I am. I already know that. Not that I have anything against pity parties. If you have one I will glady attend.

At least I am making a tiny bit of progress on my weight loss goal. It has been 2 months and I have lost 7 1/2 lbs- I know, not much, but better than none. At least losing it slow and steady I am less likely to gain it back. I definitely could do better, but I love junk food. How are you all doing on your goals? (I had to admit to my meager weight loss. As Jodi told me, public humiliation works well. I need to stay motivated.)

They are such rebels- No helmets.

Corban loves to take his sister on long drives up the canyon.

Like Father Like Son.

He kept saying, "like daddy, like daddy." I look over and I see this.

Waiting for Chad

Izzy needs to do everything that Corban does, just ask her. Sometimes that works out nicely.

Applesauce

Tuesday I spent the day picking most of our apples. I was amazed by the quantity, and by the lack of worm infestation. They are pesticide free, aka we were too lazy to spray, but surprisingly there were minimal issues. There were about 12 grocery bags FULL of apples- and there are few left on the tree.

We are so lucky our apple tree had such a great harvest this year. Laurelyn, a great friend, took pity on me and we spent the better part of today sorting apples and then making applesauce. I think we ended up with about 31 quarts of applesauce and a couple boxes of prime apples to store for future baking and/or eating.

Thank you so much LAURELYN! I appreciate your willingness to teach me. We survived the day with only a few minor blisters (from cutting apples) and burns.
Caution! Boiling water is hot. Go figure.

What are your favorite things to can, bake, cook, etc.?
Now that I am such a domestic goddess I need to get a few more tricks up my sleeve.
And if I am lucky, next week I will learn to can grape juice.

General Conference

I have loved to read others' recent posts about conference. There was so much that I loved about it.

The children's choir on Saturday was wonderful. For my kids it also helps to have a few people we can play "where's waldo" with from the Tab choir. Keeping the kids still wasn't easy, but I think they did fairly well.

I would love to hear your favorite moments from General Conference, whether that applies to quotes, talks, or how you kept your kids content.

(I need ideas for next time.)

One of my favorite moments with Corban was on Saturday- before I pushed power on the TV I explained that we would be watching the prophet and asked if he remembered what he looked like. As I pushed the button he called out, "Oh . . . Here he is!" He was so excited. President Monson was opening the meeting. When President Monson got up later Corban exclaimed, "oh, here-ee-is again."

So cute. I am hoping to get to read some of the talks I missed or couldn't hear.

Some Pictures

First off, Corban and I have to brag about our "canning" skills.

Disclaimer: I realize I am not good at canning- I want to do more- I want to learn- maybe next year. First I have to learn to garden. Baby steps like Bob, right? One day I will can with the best of them!
That means you- Connie, Candice, Laurelyn, etc. There are so many of you expert canners our there.

We made strawberry freezer jam! I make one mean jar of Strawberry jam- Like it is so hard.
It turned out so yummy. We had 10 jars when we were finished. Corban LOVED cutting the stems off (with his plastic knife)- Don't tell him, I had a special bowl for his stems so I could go back and cut off the rest of the fruit. He would basically cut the fruit in half. :) I love strawberry freezer jam! He loved mixing and stirring. What a great helper. Corban loves to work in the kitchen- for small bursts of time. I do believe his favorite thing must be breaking eggs open. When I don't let him do something- usually involving knifes- he is allowed to hold my wrist to control cutting, etc. You have to be careful what you do in front of Corb because he thinks if he sees it done once he can do it by himself. :)
Izzy looks so grown up in these pictures.
Such a cutie!
(Sorry about it being blurred.)
Corban's favorite outfit.
Thank you, Jill and Vili!
He wears it as much as I will let him. He thinks it's name is "outfit." If I want him to go get dressed and I use the phrase, "go put on an outfit," he comes back wearing it. :)
